Welcome to the website of the "Eline Foundation" ("Stichting Eline - De Cirkel is Rond"). Our main objective is to support children in the Chongqing municipality in southwest China who have the intellectual capacities to finish middle and high school, but lack the financial means.
Our foundation originated with the story of Eline, born in China and adopted
in The Netherlands. In 2007, Eline met her original family for the first
time (see History).
This meeting was a unique event, because Eline is the first adopted Chinese
foundling (abandoned child) who has found her birth parents.
The Dutch television series Spoorloos ("Without A Trace"), broadcasted by
the KRO (a Dutch RTV network) devoted several episodes to Eline's story, on
January 29, September 24, and October 1 of 2007, and July 7, 2008,
respectively. See Videos.
Jim and Wilma, Eline's Dutch parents, were struck by the differences in
opportunities and chances between Eline and her older Chinese sisters He
Yixin and He Lu. He Yixin (19) finished elementary school but could not
finish middle school because she had to start working. He Lu (14) is still
going to school, but her future would look the same if Jim and Wilma had not
helped this family. Both of Eline's Chinese sisters will now have the
opportunity to get a good education.
However, He Yixin and He Lu are by no means exceptions. There are many children in need of financial support to finalize their middle and high school education. So a foundation was started, with Eline as mascot, that organizes funding and attempts to support the education in Chongqing through local organizations. Our motto: "Every contribution, however small, does count".
